How to use the SoCompetent website
The "Help" section of the SoCompetent website assists you and explains how to easily find a job or a skilled person to do a job. By following the instructions, you can quickly create a profile, post jobs or skills and finally contact the members of SoCompetent community.
To familiarize you with SoCompetent and give you quick access to all the functions of this tool, we have divided the Help section into several explanatory forms:

1.1- Enjoy to discover SoCompetent
The SoCompetent website is intended to help people search for a job or a skilled person in all fields of activity.

SoCompetent website is accessible via Internet at http://www.socompetent.com.
The different sections of SoCompetent website :
Website logo: click the logo to return to the homepage.
Search bar: enter a word to quickly search for job or skill.
Already a user of SoCompetent?: this section describes the purpose and objective of the SoCompetent website.
Categories: jobs and skills are grouped according to their type and field of activity.
Labour legislation: this section provides information on labour-related rights.
When visiting the SoCompetent website for the first time, we recommend that you browse the different menus and use the categories to get to know the tool.
When familiar with the website, you must "Register" to open a session ("Open a session").
You can change the language of the website: English -> French, French -> English.
Go to the homepage and select "Change language" to the right of the screen.

If you want to post an advert in the other countries covered by SoCompetent, click the link "Change country " to the right of the screen.

1.2- Register & Access your profil
To search for a job/skill in a specific field (e.g. baby-sitting, plumbing, music lessons, etc...), you must first register on the SoCompetent website in order to become a member and to contact users.
There are two options to access the registration form:
1- Click the "Open a session" blue link on the website homepage (top left corner):

2- 2- Click the "Register" blue link in the "New on SoCompetent ?" section on the homepage :

Click this link and a new page is displayed.
On this page, click "Register" in the "New on SoCompetent" section to access the registration form.

Once the registration form is displayed, enter all your personal details in order to register and to contact people who have posted jobs/skills on the SoCompetent website. Any information communicated is declared to CNIL. This information is not disclosed to the other members.
Complete the form:
I- "Identification" :
Username : is any name you want, used to identify yourself to the other members. This username can be different from your name.
Password : it must remain secret to other members. It is used to connect and get access to post skills. You must never disclose your password, even to the administrators of the SoCompetent website.
Password (confirmation) : this is intended to check that the password is correctly entered.
Email address : you must indicate an email address. This address is used to receive emails and information when users want to contact you .
Email address (confirmation) : this is intended to check that the email address is correctly entered.
II- "Personal information" :
Title click the corresponding button:
- "Mr" (Mister) if you are a man,
- "Mrs" (Madam) if you are a married woman,
- "Miss, Ms" if you are a single woman.
First name : your first name (the name indicated on your credentials). Example: Paul, John, Tommy, etc...
Name : your last name (the name indicated on your credentials). Example: Dupon, Martin, etc...
Date of birth : Example: January 18, 1947, etc...
Driving licence : check the "Yes" box if you have a driving licence or the "No" box if you do not have a driving licence,
Adress : the place where you live. Example: 10, rue de la colline, etc...
Town : the town where you live. Example: Paris, Amsterdam, London, etc...
Postcode : the postcode of the town where you live.
Country : the country where you live. Example: France, Belgium
Phone numbers : your home phone number, your mobile phone number (personal, professional) where you can be easily contacted.
III- "Contact information" :
The information given in this section will only be visible by SoCompetent members. You can modify or not reveal them at any time.
Authorise to display of your mailing address : when you mark this box, the SoCompetent members are allowed to see your mailing address (the place where you live) when using the geolocalisation tool. The geolocalisation tool is very useful when you search for a skill or for a job near your home.
Skype Id: You can write your Skype id to be contacted by the other members using this tool.
MSN id : You can write your MSN id to be contacted by the other members using this tool.
Your web site : If You have a personal web site or a blog, you can note the address so that the other members visits it.
Photo : if you wish to post your photo on the site, just click "Browse" and to select one of your photos. This photo will be stocked in the www.socompetent.com site
IV- "Check code" :
Check code : this step is intended to avoid automated registrations. By entering the code displayed on the picture, you will help SoCompetent to avoid fraudulent registrations (e.g. automated registrations). This allows SoCompetent to provide higher quality of service.

V- "Conditions of use" :
You must read the General Terms of Use and check the empty box to complete registration.
Once the form is completed, click "I agree" to become a member or "I refuse" if you do not want to become a member (you will not be able to contact the persons posting jobs/skills).

After clicking "I agree", the page opposite is displayed. You must now click "Back to the homepage".
SoCompetent will send a validation email to the email address that you indicated in the registration form.
Now you are a member of SoCompetent and you can:
- post your skills or an advert,
- search for a job,
- contact a person that posted a skill
To open a session, access your account and post jobs/skills, click "Open a session" blue link on the SoCompetent start page (top left corner):

Log-in by entering your "Username" and "Password " in the "Already a member?" section to access your account.

If you have forgotten your password, you can contact the administrators of the SoCompetent website for assistance.
In this case, click "Forgotten password" and enter:
- Login: the login used to connect to the website
- Email address: the personal address entered at registration on the website.

1.3- Search, select and answer for a job or a skilled add
There are two options for searching and finding a job or a skilled person likely to meet your expectations.
Let's consider the case of your searching for a baby-sitting job in department 75 between October 1st and 31st, 2006.
1- Search for a skilled add using the "search bar"
The "Search Bar" is a search tool where you may enter the keywords describing the searched profile of the skilled person that you are looking for. Example: baby-sitter, childminding, child, etc...

2- Search for a job using the website categories
The jobs posted by the website members are classified by activity categories. Just click the category you want to find the job that you want.

After clicking the category you want, a sub-category page is displayed.
Just click the activity you want to display the skilled persons with the profile you are searching for.
Example: click the "Childcare" category then the "Baby-sitter" sub-category to find a job.

On the result page displayed, click the job you want in order to contact the person who posted the advert.
Selecting a member who has posted an advert
Once you have finished your search, select the job or skilled person by clicking on the magnifying glass (to the right of your screen)
to see the skill / job description.

You can visualize the profile of a member by clicking the member's name. A new page displays additional information on the member and shows received ratings from previous jobs.

Localize the skill / job thanks to the geolocalisation service
If you click the geolocalisation button:
, you can visualize the location of the advertised skill / job. This tool can help you to find another member of the SoCompetent community (job seeker or employer) close to you. If you want other members to localize you and/or your skills / jobs, you can activate this option in the settings.

Contacting a SoCompetent member
Nb : to contact a member of SoCompetent who has posted a skill / job, you first have to register and become a member of SoCompetent.
To contact another member, you have the following options:
- Skype : this tool allows you to make phone calls using your computer. You must first register with Skype and fill in your Skype address on the SoCompetent registration form.
- MSN : It allows you to have a live dialogue with other members. You have to be a registered user of MSN / HOTMAIL services and fill in your MSN address on the SoCompetent registration form.
- Mail: You can contact members that have posted jobs/skills by sending an email through SoCompetent.
To use these tools, simply click on the small Skype / MSN logo button or "Contact" to send an e-mail.
When you click "Contact"
, the following page displays to allow you to send a message to the member who has posted the advert.

You will receive a confirmation email after sending a message to a member.
If you wish to post a skill or a job at the http://www.socompetent.com site, you have to be a member of the community (registration at SoCompetent is free), and be logged-in (#4: Assessing your profile).

By clicking the "My skills (add / modify)" or "My jobs (add / modify)", you can now add a skill or a job by completing the fields.

I- "General Information" :
Category: look for the activity of the job you are searching for. Example: baby-sitting, plumbing, etc...
Skill level: define your skill level with respect to the searched job/skilled person. Are you "Beginner", "Intermediate" or "Expert"?.
General characteristic: This field permits to describe the skill /job proposed.
Here is John's announcement, plumber, plumber, offering his plumbing skills.
"Hello, my name is John and I have skills in plumbing, I am available in the evening and do all types of repairs.
I live in London, I can do jobs in the the city as well as in the suburbs."

II- "Availability" :

Start : Indicate the "Start" date of the period during you are available to perform a job/skill: day, month, year.
End : Indicate the "End" date of the period during you are available to perform a job/skill: day, month, year.
Specify the time of the day you are available "The day", "The morning ", "The afternoon ", "The evening " and select the region/city you are offering your job/skill.
Specify location: this category enables localisation by other members of the SoCompetent community when the geolocalisation tool is activated.
When you mark the box, additional fields permit you to specify the skill / job address. You can desactivate this option at any time by not marking the box.
III- "Media" :
This section allows to post a video, a photo, a slide show, etc. on the site , in order to present more the skill/job in detail.
Go to #6 " Add a video / slide show / photo" and learn how to create and post a video, photo or a slide show.

Once all information is entered, click "Add skill"
or "Add job"
to confirm and post the advert to SoCompetent community.
1.5- Add a video to present the job/ skill
If you wish to display your skills / jobs through a video, you have to :
1- Create an account on a video web site such as Youtube, Dailymotion, ...
2- Post the video
3- Link the video to SoCompetent
1- Create an account on a video web site
To create an account on a video web site, for example Youtube, go on the on the following website http://www.youtube.com.
Once you’ve created your profile, click the link "My videos"

Then click "Upload a video "

2- Post the video
To post a video presenting skills / jobs already recorded and stocked on your computer, fill in all the fields and click "Upload a video "

The web page below appears and to post the video, click "Browse", select the video you want to post from the directories of your computer and click "Upload Video ".

To record a video with a Webcam, you have to fill all the fields describing the video then click "Use Quick Capture ".

Youtube automatically detects you to the parameters of your Webcam and you just have to click "Authorise".

Your Webcam switches on, click "Record" and when you want to end the recording, click "Finish & Exit".

You receive a code for your video. "copy" then " paste" the code into the form at SoCompetent in order to display the video on the SoCompetent website.

To integrate a video already on the Youtube site, "copy" then "paste" the code available on the left-hand side of the screen.

After searching skills and jobs adds matching your needs, you can contact members you are interested in and send them a proposal.
Find below the main steps helping you to write a proposal :
1- Contact a registered personn (see paragraph 1.3)
Before sending a proposal, we advise you to contact the member :
- confirm that the job add is matching your needs,
- confirm that the skilled person is the one you are looking for,
- confirm the schedule,
- check that the assignement in not to far away ,
- find an agreement about the daily rate.
If you want to contact a registered member, you have to be logged in and click on "Contact" .

Then, click on "Work in progress".

"Work in progress" give you an overiew of the persons contacted, jobs or skilled persons.

If you need more information about the add, you can send a mail by clicking on "Contact".
You can quit at any time the discussion by clicking on "Cancel".
2- Writting a proposal and send it
When parties have find an agreement (duration, location, daily rate, ...,)
you can summarize it by clicking on ![]()

3- Accept a proposal
You can read the proposal by clicking on ![]()
If you agree the terms of the proposal, you just
have to ckick on ![]()
As soon as the assignement is over, you can leave your feedbacks in the "Leave feedback" rubric.

Click on "Validate" to confirm the feedback

2.1- Using labour legislation section
The labour legislation section is accessible through the homepage (to the right of the screen). It provides employment-related information.

The SoCompetent website has a section containing advice on how to find a job or a skilled person quickly and tips on how to get the best results.
We encourage you to read these articles because they could help you to prepare for an interview or to select the best candidate for your job.
The section is available in the homepage through the section " SoCompetent Advice " (to the right of your screen).

3- Training centers for individuals
To search for a training center in a specific field (e.g. baby-sitting, plumbing, music lessons, etc...), you can use two options :
- the "Search Bar" where you may enter the keywords describing the searched training that you are looking for. Example: baby-sitter, childminding, child, etc...
- Search for a training using the website categories. Example : Beauty specialists, Motoring, Sales, etc...
As soon as I am on the researched category, I click on "Training Center". I will find several centers that propose trainings adapted to my needs.

In addition to the skills and jobs available, you can also access news on employment selected by category (Agriculture, Publishing, etc.). Just select a category and click "News".
A list of news related with the category will be proposed and you can sort out this information by date or title. By clicking the magnifying glass, you access the article.

Most recent press reviews about SoCompetent can be found under "Press review" at the bottom of your screen.

Skill: a skill is a recognised ability in such or such activity (plumbing, electricity, baby-sitting, mechanics...). Skilled people are able to doing jobs in line with their abilities.
Job: Responsibility entrusted to a skilled person to achieve a given task.
Categories: groups of jobs and skills according to their type and field of activity.
Main menu: this menu is the "Homepage" displayed on your screen when you connect to the SoCompetent website. It groups all sections, documents as well as jobs and skills.
Search bar: this bar allows you to enter a word (e.g. "baby", "lessons", etc...) and to quickly search for available jobs and skills.
